 In the Hyogo Prefecture of Japan, the city of Itami lies roughly 10km from Osaka. Nestled between the Ina River and Muko River, this area has a deep history where discovering old stone tools and ancient pottery fragments is not uncommon. In a traditional Japanese home from the 19th to early 20th century, the entrance foyer (doma in Japanese) was a pad built on the same level as the ground outside with a simple layout including a wood-burning cooker and sink. Like the kitchen of a modern home, the doma is the connection hub where families would naturally gather and allow the home to connect with the neighborhood.


일본의 효고현에 있는 이타미시는 오사카에서 약 10km 거리에 있습니다. 이나가와 무고강에 끼인 이 지역은 오래된 석기와 고대 도기의 파편이 발견되는 것도 드물지 않을 정도로 역사가 깊은 장소입니다. 19세기부터 20세기 초에 걸쳐 일본의 전통 가옥에서는 현관 홀(일본어로 토간)은 야외 지면과 같은 높이에 지어져 장작 스토브와 싱크대를 갖춘 간단한 레이아웃이었습니다. 현대 집의 부엌과 마찬가지로 토양은 가족이 자연스럽게 모여 집과 인근의 연결을 가능하게하는 커뮤니케이션 허브입니다.
